Introduction

Long Bear Valley is a Cascadian Fantasy Hex-Crawl for 3rd level adventurers. Begin in hex 1. Giant sword ferns, fallen cedars, and the ever-pounding rain limit travel to one hex per day; every step must be earned with a machete. The valley is encircled by cliff-faced mountains, except hex 1 which exits homeward to the south. The adventurers must return to hex 1 within three weeks to catch a convoy back home.

I finished this Hex Crawl with my friends this last weekend. In total we played for roughly ~10 hours in total and had an amazing time. I had never run a Hex Crawl before, and TL:DR for other young DMs I would say this is a great learning module to start Hex Crawls with. It really teaches you to let your players get lost, use theater of the mind and letting encounters be resolved any number of ways, having wandering events, and using events from one hex to effect the events in another! My players personally, tried to fight the long bear, almost died to it but escaped, met the Mummy and became best friends with her and the Electromancer in the dam, got almost all the treasure, and even freed the Fire Elemental! All within 21 days! I had a fun moment where I rolled that Vucci was with the Howling Poets, and one of my players almost stayed behind to become one of them until another player beat them in a poetry contest to get them back. So much fun stuff, and I am so going to try and get my other groups to try this out too.

When I try to download this both versions are black and white

Thanks for turning me on to this. It looks AMAZING! Come back and tell us how the game goes. Always love hearing the stories of the long bear.

This was the first hex crawl I've done, despite wanting to get into the format for quite some time, and I had an absolute blast. This quick-to-run adventure strikes the right balance between having enough going on in each hex, but also having some down time to let adventures rest and recovers from their wilderness trek. There's a good mix of social and combat, and all encounters are slightly off the wall and could be played straight or played as a complete farce.  Great work!
